Brazilian Beach Resort Towns

Everyone’s heard of Rio de Janeiro and its legendary beach playgrounds. Ipanema, Copacabana, and Barra da Tijuca are famous worldwide.  Some international visitors have recently even been fortunate enough to travel to Paraty or Trancoso—both recognized by national magazines as celebrity “It spots”. But Brazilians know that those beach destinations are just the beginning if you’re seeking beautiful beaches. Rio is a city, and there are many other Brazilian cities fronted by a beautiful beach. But the resort towns are where people from Sao Paulo, Rio, Brasilia, and South American cities go to escape and chill out. Here’s our South America Cruise Guide: Brazilian Beach Resort Towns for Buzios!

Orla Bardot

A jet-setters’ haven ever since Brigitte Bardot made it her own, this picture-perfect village feels almost European, with its cobblestone streets and chic little boutiques. It has 17 beaches, all of which are  clean and picturesque, even the one right in the center of town. The sand is powder-soft and gold in the sun. Small boats rest enticingly on the sand—you can hire one with a pilot for the day, and go cruising around the coves  before dining on the freshest seafood. In the evening, there are some cute bars and patio cafes. Not much of a club scene, but plenty of couples strolling down the boardwalk and looking for the iconic bronze statue of Bardot.

Water Taxis

What to Do: Hop aboard a boat and head out to a private beach cove. If you’re with family, you may choose to charter a small power boat just for your group. If you’re looking for a grownup party, join a larger “party boat” and enjoy free-flowing caipirinhas with sexy strangers.

What to Eat: Fresh-caught seafood, sizzling on platters as it arrives to your table. Even if it’s a simple restaurant, this will be one of your most memorable moments.  Try Rocka Beach Lounge or Restaurante do David.
