Silversea Cruises Prince Albert II

Silversea Cruises Prince Albert IIThe newest addition to the Silversea Cruises fleet is the Prince Albert II. The refurbished Prince Albert II offers special expeditions and onboard luxury. This ship was formely the World Discoverer and is not a young ship. However, based on the renovations and refurbishments you would never know it.

The Lloyd's Register 1A ice-rated vessel is purpose-built for expedition cruising. At 6,072 gross tons it can carry a maximum of 132 guests. To ensure the ship delivers an expedition cruise experience consistent with Silversea's award-winning luxury standards, the refurbishment included exterior design modifications, state-of-the-art technological enhancements and a comprehensive upgrade of all guest accommodations and public spaces.

SilverSea Cruises Prince Albert II Accommodations

Rooms on the Prince Albert II are somewhat smaller than their counterpoints on the larger Silversea ships but have virtually all of the same luxury aspects. The 66 rooms are all outside; 20 of them have balconies ranging from French balcony type to the two owner's suites with large outside spaces. Sizes run from 175 to 230 square feet for 46 rooms in the more basic categories; the other 20 suites range from up to 786 square feet. Prices do vary according to size and location, so the deck plan is well worth studying to pick out the best cabin.

All suites come with luxurious living areas and private marble bathrooms. Bulgari amenities are offered. All bedding, sheets, duvets, towels and such are new as part of the refurbishment. There are high-quality coffee makers, flat-screen TVs with on-demand movies from an extensive list, writing desk, plenty of closet/drawer space, Wi-Fi access and more in all rooms. The largest suites also come with butler service.

Public Spaces

Though this isn't a big ship, it doesn't seem overly small. The three main gathering rooms are nicely sized. There is a forward observation lounge which, despite its smallish front windows, gives guests a good view of where they are going.

The Panorama Lounge is a place for socializing all day long and especially before and after dinner, and the theater is used for presentations, lectures, etc. The nicest public room is the dining room, which has plenty of space for everyone and lots of tables for two and four. Guests wishing to be more social can easily join larger tables.

Other spaces include: a gym, spa, gift shop, a two-part library, Internet area and humidor. There's no pool, but there are two nicely sized whirlpools on the aft deck.

Silversea's Expedition Ship

Guests aboard Silversea's Prince Albert II will be inspired by the varied and constantly adapted itineraries that will make the most of the natural opportunities created by the landscapes around them.  There is so much to explore that they can sail for up to 48 days on back-to-back voyages without repeating a Zodiac landing site.  This is not soft adventure; this is full scale exploring from an ultra-luxury base at sea, in true Silversea style.

For those guests inclined to luxury who also want to see places a bit off the beaten track, Prince Albert II is ideal. After the Arctic Season, itineraries are set to include Iceland and Greenland before heading off to a winter in Chile, Antarctica and French Polynesia.
