Magic on the High Seas
With upgrades and many amenities, the Disney Magic ship is perfect for kids of all ages. Families and couples have a variety of options to explore onboard the Disney Magic, the 83,000-ton ship that launched Disney into the cruise market in 1998. This past summer, the Magic underwent some significant improvements, including an expansion of the spa and fitness facilities.
Accommodations: Among the ships's 877 accommodations are several deluxe family staterooms, each with a veranda and plenty of space for a family of four looking to get away for a week or more. The kids sleep on two separate bunk beds while the parents comfortably snooze on the queen-size bed on the other side of a curtain. A nice feature of this cabin is the split bathroom. One side has a sink and a toliet, while the other has a sink and a shower/tub.
Dining: The Disney Magic has three main dining rooms through which guests rotate during their cruise, and each dining room features its own theme and dining choices. the wait staff assigned to a family's or couple's table on the first day is the same wait staff that guests will see throughout the cruise, regardless of dining venue.
The restaurants inlcude Animator's Palate, an interactive restaurant where animated drawings come to life throughtout the dinner; Parrot Cay, a Bahamas-themed restaurant; and Lumiere's, a classic restaurant that features French-incluenced cuisine. Palo, an alternative restaurant featuring northern Italian cuisine, offers a more intimate dining experience. For a $10 surcharge, guests can enjoy the special service and the quite atmosphere. The key is to book in advance to ensure getting the day and time desired.
The Topsider Buffet works well for a quick breakfast, and other options for lunch and dinner include Pluto's Dog House Snack Bar, which serves hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken fingers and other casual fare, and the new Goofy's Galley, where passengers can order paninis, wraps and fresh salads.
Disney Magic On Board Amenities
Spa & Fitness Center: New additions in the spa include the Vista Spa Villas - three rooms set aside for couples or singles interested in really getting away from it all. Each villa is divided into two distinct areas and a private veranda with a chaise lounge for two and a whirlpool spa. The fitness area was more than doubled and now has more weight-training and cardiovascular machines.
Entertainment: In addition to the Disney characters who roam throughout the ship and in the restaurants, Broadway-quality productions are performed virtually every night of the cruise. All of the shows are based on Disney characters and movies. In addition, an adults-only area called Beat Street provides a piano bar and a separate nightclub, where entertainment includes comedy shows catered to a mature audience.
Children's Programs: The Magic offers a variety of programs catering to kids ages 3 to 12, as well as a teen-only hangout called The Stack. Kids are divided by age group and take part in a variety of interactive programs. The variety of children's areas cover nearly an entire deck and keeps the kids going all day while the parents are getting a break.
Itineraries: The Disney Magic alternates seven-night Eastern and Western Caribban cruises that depart from Port Canaveral on Saturdays.
